IBM Helps Airport Authority Hong Kong to Accelerate Hybrid Cloud Journey

IBM Services Uses Red Hat OpenShift to Drive Next-level Business Agility for Operator of Award-winning International Airport
Aug 26, 2020

Hong Kong, August 26, 2020 ─ IBM Hong Kong today announced that Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) will use IBM Services to accelerate a massive cloud transformation designed to address continuous business growth and customer demand, and improve overall business agility. AAHK will also adopt Red Hat OpenShift, the primary container environment for all of IBM’s hybrid cloud offerings.

With the Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKIA) Three-runway System to be implemented by 2024, as well as the rollout of the Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, it is expected an increasing demand in air passenger volume and the related services and facilities at HKIA. To support the anticipated increasing demand and continuous business growth in the long run, AAHK will need to enhance a significant proportion of its applications to improve the overall agility of its scalable business functions and operations, and facilitate infrastructure optimization.

Appointed by AAHK through an open tender process, IBM will provide AAHK a robust portfolio of services to support the organization’s migration to the cloud. The IBM Services team will help AAHK to discover the technical details and dependencies of more than 110 applications, analyze migration patterns and approaches, finalize target state architecture, conduct microservices, and execute cloud application migration and modernization.

IBM will also work with AAHK to employ DevSecOps – the modern way of delivering applications faster and with higher quality and security – in the Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery Pipeline Design and Implementation. In addition, IBM will work together with Red Hat to implement Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. With managed services for the IBM public cloud, AAHK will establish a new Support Center to manage the operation and maintenance of its hybrid cloud platform.

With the help of IBM's proven industry expertise and strong lineup of cloud offerings, AAHK will continue to transform their business processes and customer experiences.

"Our clients are turning to the cloud to achieve greater agility, build more efficient and faster business processes, and ultimately enable better customer experiences. As an industry leader, AAHK remains at the fore in this digital era. We are delighted that they will tap the industry expertise of IBM to accelerate their modernization journey and elevate their organization to new heights," said Francis Ngai, General Manager, IBM China/Hong Kong Limited.

“We are excited to be part of AAHK’s cloud transformation. Red Hat OpenShift provides the ability to build nearly any application for deployment anywhere across the hybrid cloud with consistency and flexibility,” said Peter Man, General Manager, Red Hat Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.
